MOORDOWN HALIFAX MEMORIAL  My good friend, and ex-bassplayer, Roger Shore spent many hours researching the background to the crash of Halifax JP137 on Bournemouth during WW2. There is now a memorial very close to the site of the crash.

COMPLETE NEWGATE CALENDAR  There isn't a single LONGMORE amongst them, but there are some marvellous stories here!


ASTONBROOK-THROUGH-ASTONMANOR  A visit to this site is mandatory if you have connections to the Aston district of Birmingham. Informative articles, photographs, 1920 Surname Index - John Houghton is doing an excellent job.

BIRMINGHAM HISTORY FORUM  Jim Pritchard has now taken over this site and rejuvenated it. It is now the premier site for Birmingham history with many knowledgeable people amongst the Forum membership.

LADYWOOD  Mac Joseph's site dedicated to this Birmingham district has a wonderful photographic collection, forums and articles. Don't miss it!

William Longmore  is researching the ancestors & descendants of Joseph W. LONGMORE (1918 - 1993) who was born in Kingswinford and later moved to Larne, Northern Ireland.

Rosemary West  is researching BAUERs - Francois BAUER married Susannah LONGMORE in 1843.

CALIFORNIA DEATHS, 1940 - 1997  Supposedly the first of a number of databases to which we are to be allowed free access from now on. A case of "watch this space".

COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION ROLL OF HONOUR  Worth searching if an ancestor died as a result of 20th century conflict.

  COPAC  Free access to the merged online catalogues of 22 of the largest university research libraries in the UK and Ireland plus the British Library.

  CYNDI'S LIST  The genealogical links list to end all genealogical links lists!

ELLIS ISLAND  Between 1892 and 1924 over 22 million people entered the USA via Ellis Island. Search the ships' manifests for your ancestors.

INDEX OF ENGLISH & WELSH LUNATIC ASYLUMS & MENTAL HOSPITALS  Based on an 1844 report, but extended to cover other asylums.

  INTERNET LIBRARY OF EARLY JOURNALS  View iamges of complete volumes of 18th & 19th century journals such as Gentleman's Magazine, Notes and Queries, & The Builder.

  INTERNET PUBLIC LIBRARY  Includes a genealogy section, but also an extensive list of newspaper sites around the world and many other goodies.

  LONDON GAZETTE  Ecclesiastical & military appointments, and 20th century honours and awards. Incorporates a good search engine.

  MEN AT THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR  A database of over 21,750 men who were on the musters of ships on the British side on 21st October 1805.

  MIDLAND PUBS  Includes old photographs of other buildings and street scenes in addition to many anecdotes about the pub trade. Interesting site.

  OLD BAILEY PROCEEDINGS  England's premier law court. Currently covers trials from 1714 - 1759, but will eventually cover 1674 - 1834. An excellent site!

  PAPERSPAST  The National Library of New Zealand's excellent free search facility for over one million pages of New Zealand newspapers from 1840 - 1915. There are over 1500 entries for the name LONGMORE!

SOUTH AFRICAN GENEALOGICAL & OTHER PUBLICATIONS  Colin Pretorius' site contains more than 50 e-books of a genealogical, biographical and cultural-historic nature and includes a number of free downloadable books and articles.

T. & A. LONGMORE  During the 1860s, this Birmingham company manufactured handcuffs and similar items. Here is a brief history of this aspect of their business.

TEXAS BIRTHS, 1926 - 1995  Another useful site for those with connections to this state.
